Final Fantasy XVI Producer’s “Pride As A Gamer” Influenced New Approach To Difficulty Levels

Final Fantasy XVI takes a more action-oriented approach than any previous game in the series. To help players less used to this style of play, we are introducing a new variable difficulty system. It’s dictated not by selecting options in the menu, but by equipping certain gear. Producer Naoki Yoshida said the spark for the idea came from his pride as a player.

why Yoshida made this

Yoshida explained that he wanted to create a system that didn’t put players in a situation where they felt like they were being violated, so he turned to game director Hiroshi Takai and combat director Ryota Suzuki to find a solution. The result was a set of five special add-ons, two of which are equipped by default if you choose Story mode, but all of which can be equipped even if you don’t, each of which focuses on a specific type of challenge facing players. players you can fight against that. For example, one ring automatically uses your potions, while the other allows you to achieve complex combinations with a single button. This allows players to swap out accessories at will to fill in the gaps.

Final Fantasy XVI “Timely” Assist Rings

  • Ring of Timely Assistance – dog (Torgul) auto-commands
  • Ring of Timely Focus – slows time before an evadable attack
  • Ring of Timely Strikes – one-button combos
  • Ring of Timely Evasion – auto-dodge
  • Ring of Timely Healing – auto-potions when at reduced HP

That being said, there are five rings and only three accessory slots. You need to choose which help you need the most and prioritize it. Even then, they take up an extra slot that you can normally use for other gear, and the team hopes to gently nudge players to remove their rings as they become more comfortable with combat.

“We’ll help you out at first, but once you get used to the controls and confidence in your abilities, you start taking the grips and putting on the ones that power up the ones you have and start to focus more.” on your abilities,” said Takai.

The more action-oriented approach to combat is likely a result of Takai’s love of the God of War series, which he says also influenced Final Fantasy’s game structure. After a long time of practice, the action direction of Final Fantasy looks very promising.
